Board Certified Periodontist and Implant Surgeon
Yousuf Aboosi, DDS, MS is board certified in periodontology and implant surgery, which means he has made remarkable achievements in knowledge and skill beyond the necessary educational requirements of the specialty. He has demonstrated complete mastery of all aspects of periodontal disease and the placement of dental implants.
Dr. Aboosi was born in Baghdad, Iraq but moved to Jordan when he earned a prestigious scholarship to study Dentistry at the University of Jordan. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery in 2011 and then moved to the U.S. where he deepened his dentistry knowledge after completing his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry and was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society in 2016.
After three years of additional intensive training, Dr. Aboosi completed his Certificate in Periodontics and Master of Science in Dentistry at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he served as Chief Resident and Principal Investigator on research projects seeking to improve the outcomes of Periodontal treatments. He simultaneously earned a Certificate in Periodontics at the Birmingham VA Medical Center, graduating from both programs in 2019.
In 2019, Dr. Aboosi also received the Dr. and Mrs. Gerald M. Kramer Scholar Award for Excellence. This prestigious award is given to only one graduating periodontist in the nation each year.
Dr. Aboosi’s favorite part of his job is the interaction he has with people. Firstly, forming a strong relationship with his patients so they understand their treatment options and can make an informed decision on their treatment. Secondly, he enjoys the teamwork and collaboration involved within the periodontal field with other restorative dentists and specialists to ensure he can deliver the best care to his patients.
Despite the challenges he faced growing up in a war-torn country, Dr. Aboosi credits his success to the independence and determination his parents instilled in him as a child and is extremely proud of how far he has come. Because of his own difficult journey, Dr. Aboosi is dedicated to giving back to the community. He believes that everyone should have the right to receive exceptional dental treatment, therefore he invests time in volunteering to support this. He’s performed oral cancer screenings in Jordan, presented oral hygiene seminars at the Virginia Boys and Girls Club in Richmond and Pathways Birmingham — a shelter for homeless women and children, offered basic dental hygiene procedures to people in Jamaica, and provided dental services to U.S. veterans in Vermont.
Dr. Aboosi lives in Vienna with his fiancé, Adam, and their two dogs, Harper and Kennedy. Together, they love going hiking, camping and embarking on fun adventures. Other passions of his include, creating floral arrangements, gardening, traveling, photography and cooking.
