Board Certified Periodontist and Implant Surgeon Dr. Aboosi Joins the Team at Greg L. LaVecchia, DMD

Dr. LaVecchia and the team at Greg L. LaVecchia, DMD, PC are delighted to welcome our new periodontist, Yousuf Aboosi, DDS. When we first met Dr. Aboosi, we were extremely impressed with his extensive dental education as well as his dedication to the field of dentistry and giving back to his community.

Dr. Aboosi lives in Vienna with his fiancé, Adam, and their two dogs, Harper and Kennedy, but was born in Baghdad, Iraq. He moved to Jordan when he earned a prestigious scholarship to study Dentistry at the University of Jordan after receiving one of the top ten highest test scores in the country. This began his journey to becoming a Periodontist in the U.S. and receiving the Dr. and Mrs. Gerald M. Kramer Scholar Award for Excellence — this prestigious award is given to only one graduating periodontist in the nation each year. Learn more about his qualifications here.

Despite the challenges of growing up in a war-torn country, Dr. Aboosi, now a Board Certified Periodontist and Implant Surgeon, credits his success to the independence and determination his parents instilled in him as a child and is extremely proud of how far he has come.

“I was drawn to periodontistry because of the connection you develop with your patients over time,” said Dr. Aboosi. “You see patients who have been told they are going to lose all their teeth and have seemingly lost all hope of a positive outcome or prognosis. When you are able to work with them, coach them, and show them what improvements can be made, they can begin to see a new path to dental health. Seeing the difference periodontal treatment can make in a person’s life is the ultimate reward.”

Periodontics refers to the infectious/inflammatory disease found initially in your gums that over time, destroys the gums and the "seal" that the gums provide against infection. The disease can then reach the deeper jaw bone that supports the teeth, and as time goes on, the bone weakens, the teeth can start to move. Eventually, tooth loss can occur if the problem isn’t treated, and the structure for a proper chewing function will be lost.

Implant dentistry is focused on restoring your teeth after you experience tooth loss from tooth decay and disease. The bone inside your mouth can be restored and implants placed to give you the happy and confident smile you deserve.

We are proud to have an in-house periodontal team, and you will likely be referred to Dr. Aboosi if you are suffering from issues with your gums or have loose teeth. For example, if you are experiencing badly receding gums, swollen or bleeding gums, pain and discomfort in your teeth and gums, or notice changes in your bite.
